We have visited this location in Asturias, northern Spain many times before. The first time we hauled the Phantom along the rocky beach, it ended up not just overcast, but a complete ‘white-out’. We had valuable practice flight but no usable video from the attached GoPro Hero 3+. This morning was different – good light at sunrise and a […]
Room with a view
The weather forecast said “Sun with a few clouds”. Yet outside at 6pm it was almost dark with thunder and lightning. We made tea.
Wet feet
The tide was turning. So I decided to tentatively walk down a makeshift boatslip of eucalyptus and old bits of driftwood, and jumped down onto the sand. I happily clicked away trying to get an interesting swirl in the sea as it reached the beach. I got my feet wet, many times, and also left […]
Determined
We took a break from Asturias, in northern Spain to celebrate Belinda’s birthday. We didn’t travel far, just to the neighbouring region of Cantabria. We had a list of 3 beaches to visit. Camping in the van was a challenge, the weather was brutal – cold, rain and strong winds. And it’s supposed to be […]
Exit this way
This morning we escaped the rain – by heading underground! We climbed down to investigate some potential pictures in this cave system on the north spanish coast. We gathered some good ideas but the trip was cut short as both our head torches started to fade. They must have got accidentally switched on in the rucksack overnight. […]
Weather predictions
Time to ditch the App? Today we expected the worst but the reality was very different. A rainy afternoon inside or a spot of sunbathing at the beach?
Sunrise reflection in metallic
I left John on the beach, cursing to himself – in particular he was all hot and bothered about a band of thick low cloud that had just arrived as the sun was rising. I headed back up to the van where we had camped to make breakfast. The sunrise looked pretty good from where […]
Rockpools
Tread carefully – there’s another world beneath our feet. The evening light was poor but we were mesmerised for hours by these network of rockpools. There were hundreds of sea anemones, star fish, sea urchins, fish, crabs and even a shy octopus.
All change
We try to arrive on location a few hours before official sunset. It’s a time to relax and plan the shots. But more often than not, this calm preparation ends up being interrupted by last minute frantic changes – hurriedly clambering over rocks, swapping lenses, re-adjusting the tripod. As the light quickly changes, so does […]
Gannets amongst the grey clouds
We sheltered in a cave from the rain, a bit fed up with the weather, sunset looked like being another ‘grey one’. Perhaps the 5am wake-ups were taking their toll. A few moments later, as I’m setting up the picture, Be turns towards me – “Look at all the gannets out to sea, there’s loads […]
